Sam Adams E-Mail Newsletter

Hey Badassbeer!

What a crazy couple of weeks! As many of you have heard, this week we announced that after two years of ergonomic and sensory research and testing, we have decided to expand our product line to include cans. With the goal of providing a drinking experience that is closer to the taste and comfort of drinking beer from a glass, our flagship Boston Lager and Summer Ale will be made available in cans starting early this summer. For those of you wondering if these styles will still flow from draft and bottle, the answer is yes. Learn more about the back story behind the new "Sam Can" by clicking here.

On the brewing front we remain busy bottling and packaging our Spring Thaw variety packs, which are shipping out as we begin to experiment with potential summer styles. We’re also excited about the release of White Lantern and Double Agent IPL in standalone, year-round 6-packs this month. If you have not tried these new styles yet, be sure to check out our Find a Sam page.

Enjoy this month’s What’s on Tap as we head back to the kettles. – Andrew

IPA Hopology
Returns

Last year we brewed the limited-edition IPA Hopology variety pack for the hop lovers. Each IPA takes on a different hop character and builds upon it with layers of complex flavors inspired by unique combinations of ingredients and/or fusion with other beer styles. The outcry from Sam fans was so overwhelming that we had to bring it back for 2013.

Hopology is perfect for getting together with fellow hop heads and sampling the spectrum of flavors available in IPAs today. Styles included in the 2013 IPA Hopology variety pack, in the order we recommend sampling, are: Whitewater IPA, Grumpy Monk, Latitude 48 (new release for 2013 featuring Mosaic™ hops), Tasman Red, Dark Depths, and Third Voyage.

This variety pack will be a limited release again, so be sure to track one down in your area.

News from
Samuel Adams Brewing the
American Dream

We’d like to welcome the newest member of the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream program, Brewla! Based in Brooklyn, New York, this healthy alternative to ice pops is made with blends of fruit and dairy ingredients. Brother and sister team, Daniel and Rebecca Dengrove, used their years of experience in food science and product development to create all natural brewed popsicles. Brewla Bars have unique tastes and flavors such as brewed tea, root beer, and coffee. Through the Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream program, the Brewla founders will use their loan for packaging product cartons – allowing them to further establish their brand and grow their business.

A new release for 2013, White Lantern is a hazy golden ale brewed with tangerine and orange peel that contribute sweet and tangy flavors. For added layers of complexity and a peppery spice, we added coriander and Grains of Paradise to complement the citrus flavors. The resulting brew is reminiscent of the original Belgian white ales, with medium body and slightly sweet notes followed by a crisp finish and a slight lingering spiciness.

Belgian-style white ales, or witbiers, have a long history of unique ingredients, as Belgian brewers experimented with spices brought to Europe during the early spice trade. We set out to build on the Belgian brewing tradition and tried several variations until we found a beer that would be refreshing, with just the right balance of spices and citrus.

White Lantern is available in our Spring Thaw variety pack as well as 6-packs (beginning this month).

In our opinion, there is no better Samuel Adams experience than the one you get here at the Boston Brewery. Come learn about our history, the brewing process and, of course, taste some of our award winning beers.

We’re only a few short months into the year and we’re excited to share some of our new brews with you. Embracing the spring season, as the boys of summer take the field and we watch the last of the snow melt away (hopefully), we pay tribute to one of our newest year-round styles, White Lantern. Come join us and give this refreshing brew a try, along with several other styles.

The Open House is free of charge (RSVP required). We recommend a $2.00 donation, with all donations benefitting local charities.
