Meeting 9

The minutes of the beer club tasting.                                   2-20-09

This is the 9th session.

 Sampled was;

Rogue captain sigs deadliest ale 22oz 5.8 ABV IBU 80.Deep red in color, this ale starts off with a floral, slightly citrus hop nose, hop flavor soon fades into the malty backbone of this red ale. Malts: 2-Row Pale, Munich, Carastan and Chocolate. Hops: Amarillo and Cascade. Yeast & Water: Rogue’s Pacman Yeast & Free Range Coastal Water.

Dennis; Big hop & big malty ale taste I liked very much.

Stone imperial Russian stout 12oz 10.8 ABV IBU 90+.   Intensely aromatic (notes of anise, black currants, coffee, roastiness and alcohol) and heavy on the palate

Dennis; cocoa and coffee taste alcohol bite on back of tongue, big heavy but smooth mouth. I liked very very much.

Allen; too much alcohol taste.

Rogue Chocolate Stout 6.0 ABV IBU 69. Ebony in color with a rich creamy head. The mellow flavor of oats, chocolate malts and real chocolate are balanced perfectly with the right amount of hops for a bitter-sweet finish.

Dennis; cocoa and coffee taste with a floral “citrus” nose, light session beer mouth feel. I liked it.

Allen; excellent ice cold as it warmed roasted notes and coffee notes intensified & chocolate was less pronounced. Preferred ice cold.

Samuel Adams Double Bock. We use an enormous amount of malted barley, half a pound per bottle, to brew this intensely rich lager. Its deep mahogany color and velvet smooth flavor is a testament to the beer’s high quality two-row malted barley.

Dennis; Big malty and sweet taste I liked very much.
