It’s the Weekend of Compelling Ales & Whatnot!
The 2018 Weekend of Compelling Ales & Whatnot is back and it’s straight up compelling!
This wildly, unique weekend brings together all-things Dogfish and invites folks to explore featured off-centered ales and rarities that are paired perfectly alongside gastronomical, beer-centric foods created by our chefs at Chesapeake & Maine!
Happening at our Milton brewery on March 24, 2018, this celebration of indie craft beers and savory food pairings is the ultimate experience for the beer and food lover alike! With beers like Boysenberry Creamsicle Sour and our Palo Santo Marron aged in Scotch barrels, our new R&D system has been busy cranking out the weirdly wonderful for this special weekend.
Both General Admission and VIP tickets are still available. The difference? As a VIP ticketholder, you’ll walk way with a 40 oz. bottle of Liquor de Malt! Get yours today and get ready for one compelling weekend!

Upcoming Splinter Beer Releases
Some call them trophies or grails or white whales. We call them Splinter beers.
On Thursday, February 22, Nebulous joins our family of wood-aged beers as part of our Splinter Series beers!
Nebulous starts with our triple golden ale LaGrave. Some goes into wine barrels, some goes into virgin oak, and some goes into foeders teeming with Brettanomyces. The barrels ferment for months, sometimes years. As long as it takes. The wild yeast gives life to notes of honeysuckle, pear and white peach, while the oak layers in a tinge of vanilla. Bottle-conditioning puts a thousand fine points on it.
Nebulous is available in 12.7oz. cork & cage bottles exclusively at the brewery in our General Store (take-out) and Tasting Room (on-premise consumption).
Splinter on the horizon
Coming March 8… Farmette
A spell on oak with our house culture – a wayward mix of microflora we’ve been cultivating since our very first foray into wild fermentation – transformed this saison into something altogether unexpected. The wood tempers the traditional notes of clove and pepper, making way for layers of woodsy earthiness and lemon tang.
Coming March 22… Blackberry Tizzy
One day, we muddled some fresh blackberries with brown sugar, lemon juice and bourbon. “Mmm,” we thought. “This should be a beer.” Blackberry Tizzy is that spirited daydream come true. Sour fermentation tempers the juicy blackberries with a touch of tartness, and a spell in bourbon barrels delivers ripples of oak and toasted coconut.
Both Farmette and Blackberry Tizzy will be available in 12.7oz. cork & cage bottles exclusively at the brewery in our General Store (take-out) and Tasting Room (on-premise consumption).
Try these other Splinter Beers currently available at the brewery:
Have you toured our Hershey brewery? You’ll start in the Splinter Cellar, our wood-aging dream space, and follow in the footsteps of our brewers through the mill room, hop cooler, brewhouse deck, fermentation cellar and packaging lines. You’ll find out how brothers Chris and John Trogner discovered craft beer, hatched a plan to open a brewery, and survived trial-by-fire as they learned the business. Along the way, you’ll see, hear, smell, taste and touch the things it takes to brew our beer, and you’ll sample a few Tröegs favorites. It’s educational, entertaining and enlightening, and according to USA Today, it’s one of the best in the country! Vote now.

I paid my first visit to this brewery that’s been open for over a year, last Saturday afternoon. located in the town of New Hartford, CT. The tasting room was quite spacious with seating for at least 60 patrons, which on that day, was about running at 80% capacity. With some seating at the bar and about 6 picnic styles and 4 seat round tables, was quite inviting. The brewing room was behind a wall with only 2 small windows to see their equipment which wasn’t much of a view. I found an open seat at the bar and ordered a 4 glass 6oz sampler tray of their 3 IPA’s and the Kölsch, I was going to stop at that but then got a taste of their ale and lager and could not pass up a 6oz glass of the very tasty lager. I have to say the IPA’s were different but very tasty and I couldn’t taste the chocolate in the Hop Chocolate one! My brew write ups and picture are below. Brewery home page here.
Church Pool pours golden with short head and sliding lacing. Nose of malt. Taste is big wet of malt and German flavors. Very friggin good 5.1% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Just Play Your Song pours golden with short head and sliding. Nose of earthy and citrus aromas. Taste is dank of citrus and melon flavors with good bitterness. Very friggin good at 6% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Hop Chocolate pours hazy golden with good head and sliding lacing. Nose of furniture polish. Taste is dank of earthy and fruit flavors. different but very good 6% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Illegitimus pours close to amber with short head and sliding lacing. Nose of citrus and earthy aromas. Taste is big on hop flavor with a pungent bitter mouth. Very friggin good 8.5% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Rock Skipper just a sample but very tasty amber ale 5.2% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Pine Meadow Pilsner pours golden with short head and sliding. Nose is all pilsner aromas. Taste is big wet and dry of tasty pilsner flavors. One of the badassbeer, love it 5% at brewery on 2/3/18.
Brother and sister Peter and Janet Egelston along with other partners opened Northampton Brewery in the late 80’s which is close to me location. A few years later went to NH and started the Portsmouth Brewery. And everything was looking great till what I would call going overboard with this growing craft beer explosion. Now when march comes Smuttynose will go on auction. Their story of how the built everything can be found here and the auction part here.
Budweiser is no longer one of America’s three most popular beers. The rest can be found Here!
