Unafraid of the Dark IV – On Sale Now!

Many of you that have been following us for years know that we love dark beer. And, every year, we love to celebrate the magic of dark beer with a series called Unafraid of the Dark! For those of you not familiar with this program, here’s how it works… Starting in early January, we will begin releasing a unique batch of dark beer every two weeks, until just about the end of March. Each beer will feature an ingredient grown at a local farm, lovingly raised in a local garden, made by a local business, or, for the first time this year, recycled from another business! We’ll have six in total, which we hope is enough to get you (and us) through the coldest months of the year. Here are the six beers we plan to make:

– Oh SNAP! Ginger Molasses Porter
– Mexican Chocolate Porter
– Irish Stout with rum-soaked vanilla beans from Flag Hill
– Sweet Potato Pie Milk Stout
– A Dark Berliner-Style Beer made with concord grapes
– Blueberry Stout

By buying an Unafraid of the Dark card (on sale now til end of year), you guarantee yourself a growler (or growlette) fill of each of these limited release beers.

The Unafraid card makes a great gift for the beer lover in your life! Have questions about this beer series? Head on over to our blog to read the FAQs.

Fat Alberta, Gift Boxes & Other Gift Giving Ideas

Looking for some quick & easy shopping ideas for the beer lovers in your lives? Here are some recommendations:

Fat Alberta – one of our most popular beers, Fat Alberta never lasts around here more than 2 days! We are releasing Fat Alberta this coming Sunday, December 14th 12-4 pm at Throwback Brewery. In addition to selling the beer in bottles, we will be selling tastes, hosting Embers Bakery who will be there making gourmet pizzas from their wood-fired oven, pouring tastes from a cask of molasses-primed Oatmeal Stout, and more! More details here.
Gift Boxes – Just like last year, if you buy 3 items, we will wrap them together in a nice looking gift box (pictured above). Shirts, bottles, growlettes, glasswear, hats, all fit great into the gift box, and look pretty snazzy, too. 🙂
Gift Cards – If you don’t know exactly what beer or clothing to get for that special someone, we offer gift certificates in any amount you choose.
Unafraid of the Dark – see the column to the left for more details on this! We can attest to the fact that people love getting this unique beer series as a gift!

Notes from Annette

Hi, everyone. Annette here with a quick update on some of our newest beers and also some that we have in the queue. First up, the beer that seems to be on everyone’s mind – Fat Alberta. We definitely brought the nut this year – such a rich peanut aroma and flavor, combined with that backbone of chocolate.. mmmmm…our team is super happy with this year’s batch, and we hope you are too!.

New on tap at the brewery now is one of our favorites – Chipotle Porter. For those of you that like heat, this beer is for you. It is hot in a different way than Spicy Bohemian – more warming heat than big pepper spice. It does have a kick, so we recommend pairing it with stews, burgers, heartier fare like steaks, and, of course, chocolate!

And just in time for holiday festivities, Merry! Happy! Dreid-Ale!, our cranberry ginger ale, is back on tap. Come by this week to fill up on this easy drinking festive ale.

Finally, on December 12th, to coincide with the opening of the skating rink at Strawbery Banke, we will have a cask (pin) of our Stout #3 dry hopped with fennel flowers from the gardens at Strawbery Banke. We are looking forward to tapping this beer there.
