Saint Arnold Army Newsletter

Dear Saint Arnold’s Army:

Don’t forget you can make lunch reservations now for certain days this holiday season. We’ve already posted the menus for these days on our Lunch page.

We will be open for our normal lunch and tour hours with the exception of Christmas Day and New Years Day. The brewery will be closed those two days.

Christmas Ale Pub Crawl: Part II
This Saturday in Rice Village
It’s time to put on your Santa hat and find that Christmas sweater with the reindeer on it. This Saturday, December 13 is Part II of our Christmas Ale Pub Crawl in Rice Village.

As usual, we’re utilizing our open house method. This means you’ll visit the first five stops in any order, and you’ll get your ticket at whichever stop you decide to visit first. We will only be handing out the tickets between 2:00 and 3:00. Thus, you need to begin crawling by 3:00.

At 6:00 PM, everybody will gather at the final stop, and that’s where we will award the prizes. The prize for making all six stops will be a beautiful Saint Arnold pint glass. As always, designated drivers are both eligible for the award and encouraged to attend!

The first five locations:

  • The Ginger Man
  • Baker St. Pub & Grill
  • Little Woodrow’s
  • Buffalo Wild Wings
  • 55 Bar & Restaurant

And the final stop at 6:00 PM:

  • The Gorgeous Gael

Now, for our annual tips for maximum enjoyment:

  1. Precoating: Try to eat something before commencing the crawl.
  2. Pacing: Too many Christmas Ales at the first stop is a critical strategic mistake. This is known as “Sprinting Too Early” which is not advisable in this, a distance event. Can have negative repercussions later.
  3. Manners: Be patient with bar staff. Remember, 700 or so people will be descending upon them. They will be working as fast as they can. Also, it is considered very good manners to tip well everywhere you go. This creates good “beerma”.
  4. Cash: Bring cash! This pleases the bar staff and the people standing behind you. Cash is fast. Credit cards are slow. They cannot run tabs for 700 people.
  5. Buddy System: Make sure that you are always in contact with a couple of people you know. One of you is bound to notice that the pack is starting to move on to the next stop. This prevents the disoriented feeling of looking around an empty bar and realizing that the only three people still in there are guzzling some inferior malted beverage and may be related to the missing link.
  6. Make New Friends: As everyone on this crawl will be intelligent and good looking, this is an excellent place to meet new people. Also, you will note that some people become better looking as the crawl wears on. If this occurs, be sure to consult your Buddy System partner.
  7. Designated Driver: Yes, we encourage this strongly. You never know when you might decide to run for president. And even the designated drivers on the crawl qualify for the prize. While pregnant wives are perfect for this role, it is known to be poor judgment for a husband to claim that this is the best part of her being pregnant. See “Mood Swings.”
  8. Enjoy Saint Arnold Beers: It is in poor taste to be seen quaffing anything else. Ever. See “Curse of Saint Arnold.”

Friday, December 12 – Sunday, December 14

The great folks at Alamo Drafthouse want to reward you, as a member of the Saint Arnold Army, with a free movie. That’s right, a completely free movie at the Vintage Park or Mason Park Alamo Drafthouse. This is good for any movie at any time this weekend.

Just print out this flyer or show it on your phone at the box office, and you’re in. And while you’re there, you may as well enjoy a Saint Arnold beer with your movie. Keep in mind, you’ll want to show up a bit early, as some shows will sell out. Also, no children under six will be admitted and children six and older will not be admitted without a parent or guardian.

Also at Alamo Drafthouse (Vintage Park) our owner/founder Brock will be hosting an Animal House Toga Party on Thursday, December 18 at 8:00 PM. Proceeds for this evening’s ticket sales will be donated to BARC, along with the proceeds from a special holiday menu during the entire week.

Annual Tapping of the Last Cask of Christmas Ale at The Stag’s Head
Wednesday, December 17 at 6:00 PM

This party began way back when we only made about four casks of Christmas Ale. Before that, Christmas Ale casks were made only for our employee Christmas Party.

The Stag’s Head event has turned into an annual tradition of a Christmas party with many of the brewing and homebrewing community showing up to enjoy the last cask of Christmas Ale, tasty hors d’oeuvres and the fellowship that surrounds all that we do.

Debut of Tequila Barrel 20th Anniversary Ale at The Pastry War
Monday, December 22 at 5:00 PM

Join us at The Pastry War as we get together with our friends from The Hay Merchant to debut a Tequila Barrel Aged version of our 20th Anniversary Ale. We aged this special barleywine in a virgin oak Siembre Azul tequila barrel; prior to our beer, only tequila was aged in this barrel. The tequila and oak characteristics from the barrel lend notes of pear, an interesting blend with the dark fruit and caramel/toffee flavors of the 20th Anniversary Ale.
