Sam Adams newsletter

Hey Badassbeer!

Believe it or not, it’s that time of year when we trade in our OctoberFest steins for pints of Winter Lager. We’re looking forward to spending the holiday season with our family and friends while enjoying brews from our Winter Favorites Variety Pack, and Merry Maker. We’ll also be hosting some Ugly Sweater fun in the coming months and hope you’ll join us (more on that below).

We have some great news to share on the Boston Brewery front – first, we were recently named “Brewery of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast. Second, we’ve been nominated by USA Today as one of the Best Brewery Tours in the US! You can vote for us daily now through December 1st here.

We also have some exciting news from Brewing the American Dream. We’ve partnered with Entrepreneur to host our first ever Pitch Room Wild Card Competition for food and beverage small businesses. Read on to learn more about how you can help us choose which small business owner will get to participate in the Pitch Room finals in New York City this December.

Happy Holidays from all of us, and enjoy this month’s edition of What’s on Tap!

Winter Favorites Variety Pack

‘Tis the season for the Winter Favorites Variety Pack! We’re excited to bring back some classics that we can’t wait to share at this year’s holiday gatherings. This year’s Winter Favorites Variety Pack includes:

Boston Lager: The backbone of the Samuel Adams family of beers, this complex and balanced lager is a great brew no matter what time of year.

Winter Lager: Hearty and spicy, this dark wheat lager is brewed with freshly ground cinnamon, ginger, and orange peel for a deep, smooth flavor that will warm you on a cold winter’s night.

Old Fezziwig Ale: Spicy and bold, a big Christmas cookie of a beer. The heartwarming and festive character of this brew comes from the combination of rich maltiness with notes of toffee sweetness and dark caramel, and the warmth of holiday spices.

White Christmas: As crisp as the first snowfall of the year, this unfiltered white ale is blended with holiday spices including cinnamon, nutmeg, and orange peel.

The Holidays are Getting Ugly

Join us this holiday season as we gather with friends and family to enjoy pints of Winter Lager and embrace the “ugly” side of the holidays. Come and don the ugliest of sweaters at one of our Ugly Sweater Runs across the country.

On race day you’ll get to enjoy holiday music, photo stations, and holiday cheer at every mile. Once you cross the finish line, there’ll be plenty of Samuel Adams Boston Lager and Winter Lager to enjoy. All you have to do is register here to join the fun!

Brewing the American Dream: Vote Now in the Pitch Room Wild Card Competition

As part of our Brewing the American Dream program, we’ve been hosting our regional Pitch Room competitions across the country. Pitch Room gives small business owners an opportunity to pitch their food or beverage product to a panel of retailers and buyers for a chance to win a $10,000 business grant and extended coaching and mentoring from our team.

This year, we’ve partnered with Entrepreneur to add a new element to the program: the Pitch Room Wild Card Competition. Our panel of experts has selected the top video submissions, and now we need your help to choose the winner, who will receive a trip for two to participate in the Pitch Room finals in New York City this December!

Vote for your favorite small biz here now through November 19th.

Inspired by the classic flavors of gingerbread, Merry Maker is the perfect brew to pair with holiday celebrations. This rich, dark gingerbread stout entices you with the aromas of the holidays, hinting at the merriment and spices within. The flavor of gingerbread comes alive with the smooth sweetness and heartiness of dark roasted malts and a touch of wheat; however, it’s the intensity and spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and ginger that add a wicked kick to this jolly and playful brew.

Check out our Find a Sam page to find Merry Maker near you.

In our opinion, there is no better Samuel Adams experience than the one you get here at the Boston Brewery. Come learn about our history, the brewing process and, of course, taste some of our award winning beers.

Winter Lager Cookies

DIRECTIONS: In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter with the granulated and brown sugar at medium speed for 4 to 5 minutes or until light and fluffy. Add the lager and corn syrup and mix well. Reduce the speed of the mixer to medium-low and add the egg. Return the speed to medium and mix well.

In a mixing bowl, whisk the flour with the baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg. With the mixer on low speed, gradually add the dry ingredients to the dough. When the flour mixture is fully incorporated, remove the bowl from the mixer, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour and up to 6 hours. Preheat the oven to 350°F.

Scoop balls of cookie dough from the chilled bowl. Each ball should be about the size of a tablespoon (½ ounce). Arrange the balls on an ungreased baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between them. The cookies will spread and you may want to leave even more space between the cookies. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until golden brown. Repeat until all the dough is baked. Cool the cookies on the baking sheet for about 2 minutes before transferring the cookies to wire racks to cool.
