Baseball is back and the weather is finally bearable here in Boston as we look forward to another great summer. Speaking of which, we’ve been keeping pretty busy brewing Summer Ale and are excited to enjoy it in our Sam Can this year, which will be more widely available.

We recently celebrated the 118th Boston Marathon with our Boston 26.2 Brew, brewed especially for the marathon. All proceeds from Boston 26.2 Brew are going to The Greg Hill Foundation to support the families impacted by the events that took place at last year’s marathon. It is only available on tap through the month of April in Boston – check out the blog to see where it is available. Not in Boston? We also have commemorative Boston 26.2 Brew pub glasses available on our e-store.

We also recently released our LongShot pack featuring the winning beers from the 2013 competition (more on those below). Do you think you have what it takes to be a LongShot champion? We have information for you on how to submit your homebrew.


Patriot’s Day has always held a special place in our hearts – not only because it’s a celebrated holiday here in Boston and that it marks the running of the Boston Marathon each year, but it’s also the first day Boston Lager was made available in bars and restaurants in 1985! You can hear Jim tell that story on our 30th Anniversary Timeline.

As a sponsor of the Boston Marathon, we had the pleasure of spending a lot of time with the runners and spectators who came out to Boston to experience the day. We had 35 employees who worked along the race course, capturing some pretty awesome photos and handing out 26.2 Brew gear. But their most important job was to cheer on the 55 runners on our team and countless others who ran the marathon!

We also offered private tours for over a thousand marathoners over the race weekend and hosted the official post-race party with an Open House at Fenway Park, then a big bash at the House of Blues. Our brewer Dean had the privilege of leading a toast of 26.2 Brew to the top 10 finishers. Visit our Facebook page to view some photos from the party.

We were so inspired by the runners and the energy of those who lined the streets to show their support. It was a day the city of Boston won’t soon forget!


Our LongShot American Homebrew Contest is one of our favorite events throughout the year. As we kick off this year’s contest, we’re also proud to release the winning brews from last year’s contest in a 6-pack that is now available. We had more than 1,000 homebrewers submit beers to our LongShot American Homebrew Contest last year, and we narrowed it down to three great beers:

Russ Brunner’s American Stout: A big, malty stout with notes of chocolate and coffee with a velvety finish with hints of roasted cocoa. The richness is balanced by subtle citrus and pine notes from the American hops that add a touch of bitterness.

Cesar Marron’s Grätzer: This unique and flavorful wheat brew showcases a smoky sweetness from the heirloom smoked malt, and spicy and herbal notes from Saaz hops.

Teresa Bury’s Pineapple India Pale Ale: This IPA is brewed with four different American hops for a burst of grapefruit character that is mellowed and complemented by the tropical fruit notes from the pineapple.

Submit it to our LongShot American Homebrew Contest and your brew could be featured in next year’s pack. Brewing the American Dream: Speed Coaching

Are you a food, beverage, or craft brewing small business? Samuel Adams Speed Coaching can help! We developed this unique event to help hard working food and beverage small business owners access free discipline-specific advice and coaching. Throughout the evening, participants will have the chance to meet with Samuel Adams employees for personalized coaching sessions in areas like accounting, communications, branding, marketing, packaging, design, and sales and distribution. We have 14 events planned for 2014 across the country. Join us!

Our Brewing the American Dream National Pitch Room competition is underway! If you have a packaged food and beverage product that is ready for market and are interested in learning more about the art of “perfecting your sales pitch,” you are eligible to apply.  Business owners compete to win a $10,000 business grant, extended coaching and mentoring from Samuel Adams experts and the chance to pitch your product to a panel of professional retail buyers. Summer Ale Batter

Brewing the American Dream participant Michel Parente of Recipiada created an easy to make batter, or Kurkuti as it is called in Greece, with Summer Ale. It’s a fun recipe that is perfect for fried vegetables and seafood and only takes 10 minutes to prepare.

Mix all the ingredients very well and let it sit for 5 minutes in a bowl. When the batter is ready, just dip your vegetables (this batter works great with zucchini) or seafood (like calamari) in it before frying.

  • 1 1/2 cup Samuel Adams Summer Ale (1 bottle)
  • 1 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 3 teaspoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 egg
  • Salt, pepper to taste
  • Paprika (optional)
