Throwback Brewery – 2014 Portsmouth Beer Week Events!

Seacoast Winter Brew Fest

Back for a third year, the crew at have teamed up with the Portsmouth Gaslight Company to host the 3rd Annual Seacoast Winter Brew Fest. The brew fest takes place on Saturday, February 22nd, and is the marquee event during Portsmouth Beer Week.  There are two sessions starting at 12 pm (or 11 am for VIP) and 4 pm. We will be at both and hope to see you there!

Local Chocolate / Cheese / Beer Pairing on March 2nd!

Each year during Portsmouth Beer week we hold a very fun local chocolate, local cheese, and Throwback beer pairing at our brewery. Everyone has such an amazing time that we are doing it again this year!  For those of you who haven’t been able to make it to one yet, here is what you can expect if you come:

  • Five samples of our beer (including a few fun ones!), paired with
  • Good-sized chunks (~1-oz each) of cheese from NE creameries, plus
  • Truffles and other chocolate from Winnipesaukee Chocolates, plus
  • An in-depth tour of the brewery with Annette Lee – our head brewer.

We are holding two sessions: 1pm – 2:30pm and 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm. Interested? Cask Takeover at The Coat of Arms

To help us celebrate Portsmouth Beer Week, we will be taking over the beer engines at the Coat of Arms on Thursday, February 27th at 8 pm.  We’ve been preparing some really fun and awesome beers to pour from the casks that night.  The Throwback team will be there to hang out with everyone and enjoy the night.  We’ll be providing some tastes and handing out some Throwback schwag. Don’t miss it!

Special Meze Plate Night at The Black Trumpet

Speaking of takeovers, we teamed up with Chefs Evan and Carrie of the Black Trumpet to take over their Meze Plate for the night on Friday, February 28th. We collaborated to come up with this amazing meze plate / beer pairing:

1 – Oyster Stout, 5.5% ABV. Mild and soft, slightly briny. Oyster shooter with carrot harissa and caviar
2 – Dark Saison, 6.0% ABV. Chocolate spelt, roasted oats, herbs, very toasty malt flavor. Rabbit Liverwurst Sandwich (with mace and kishk) on spent grain crackerbread with cashew cheese and mustard
3 – Donkey Hote Double IPA 8.2% ABV. Hoppy, slightly sweet and nutty.Donkey-style” Shrimp and Chicken Gumbo Cake

We’ll also be at the Trumpet that night to talk about our beers and the pairings.  Cheers!
