Turkey Day Hours & beers, Plus Unafraid of the Dark!
Throwback Brewery

Notes from Annette

About this time of year, the only question we hear more than “when are you moving??” is “when is Fat Alberta going to be ready??”. She has been slowly fermenting away and is ready for peanuts this week.  This will mean a release date of Sunday, December 15th.  So please mark your calendars now! We will have more details coming in our next email.

Also in queue is our Chipotle Porter.  In the picture above, you can see me enjoying a nibble of a freshly made chipotle.  Making the chipotles is a time-intensive process – we first take red jalapeños (from Meadow’s Mirth and New Roots farms), smoke them, and then dry them.  But, we think the result is worth it!  A little bit of nice warming heat and a rich smoky & roasty flavor.  Please look for this beer around Thanksgiving.

Finally, one of my favorites, our Gourdgeous Pumpkin Ale will be ready this week for growler fills.  This is the second batch this year, and we lightened up a bit on the vanilla and added a touch more ginger.  We loved the beer before, and love it even more now!  We hope you will, too.

Cheers

Special Thanksgiving Hours & Beer Pairing Suggestions!

Next week is Thanksgiving, and we are very much looking forward to the big meal and spending time with family & friends. We are also looking forward to drinking a few beers that perfectly match the season and the occasion. As a result, we have made a fresh batch of our Gourdgeous Pumpkin Ale, and it will be available starting this Thursday!  This lightly spiced beer is a perfect complement to turkey and all the fixins. Also look for a fresh batch of the Red Rover Coffee Milk Stout to make its way to the tap lines sometime next week. Its a great beer for many desserts, especially pecan pie!

For those of you that are looking to share some Throwback with your family & friends on Thanksgiving, here are our special Thanksgiving week hours:

  • Tuesday, November 26th – 4-6pm
  • Wednesday, November 27th – 12-6pm
  • Thursday, November 28th – closed for Turkey Day!
  • Friday, November 29th – regular hours – 4-7pm
  • Saturday, November 30th – (Small Biz Saturday!) – 1-4pm

Also, if you want more suggestions on beer pairings, please ask us via email or in person at the brewery.  We’d love to help you make a perfect match!

Cheers
–Nicole and Annette

Winter Markets

The Farmers’ Markets are back, and we are excited to be attending most of the ones in Rollinsford, Greenland, and all of the Exeter ones. Here are the markets coming up through the end of the year (note – all dates are on Saturdays 10am to 2pm):
– November 23rd – Rollinsford
– December 7th – Greenland
– December 14th – Exeter
– December 21st – Rollinsford

You can see a full listing of all the markets we plan to attend here.

Unafraid of the Dark III

Since the jackets have come out and the temperatures have been dipping below 40 degrees, many of you have been asking about Unafraid of the Dark. And, we have been very excited to answer ‘YES – Unafraid of the Dark is coming back!’ For those of you not familiar with this program, here’s how it works… Starting in early January, we will begin releasing a unique batch of dark beer every two weeks, until just about the end of March. Each beer will feature an ingredient grown at a local farm, lovingly raised in a local garden, made by a local business, or, for the first time this year, pulled from the Great Bay! We’ll have six in total, which we hope is enough to get you (and us) through the coldest months of the year. Here are four of the six beers we plan to make:

  • Blackberry stout
  • Salted caramel stout
  • Oyster stout
  • Apple brown betty-style porter

Starting Wednesday, November 27th, we will begin selling Unafraid of the Dark III cards. Have questions about this beer series? Hopefully we have all the answers in our blog.
