Dear Saint Arnold’s Army:

Icon Red Bohemian Pils Now Available

Of all the hops in the world, only one used in brewing is original. It is the only hop that has never been hybridized dating back to when it was first cultivated from a wild plant around 1,000 years ago. That hop is Saaz.

We started going to the Czech Republic a few years ago for hop selection of our Saaz hops which we use to finish Summer Pils and Spring Bock. From these trips came the inspiration to celebrate this hop even more with a special pils. Thus was born our new Icon Red: Bohemian Pils. The recipe consists of just pils malt and Saaz hops. Lots of Saaz hops.

This is a light bodied beer, yet it is maltier than you would expect given the grain bill and color. We did a decoction mash for this beer, which means we took part of the mash, boiled it, and then pumped it back. This causes caramelization reactions and forms some unfermentable sugars that give the beer more depth.

There is a wonderful and rare spicy Saaz hop aroma and flavor on this beer. It is reminiscent of the pils found in the Czech Republic, but we emphasized the Saaz even more than they do. We didn’t filter this beer to ensure as much of the flavors would come through as possible. This is a beer that can be enjoyed all evening.

Lunch at the Brewery Every Weekday

Sailing Santa to be Released on Monday, November 18

It’s that time of year again – it’s Sailing Santa season! For those unfamiliar, Sailing Santa is a blend of our Christmas Ale and Elissa IPA with some spices added. The result is a pleasantly hoppy strong dark ale with spices.

The genesis of this beer came from our customers on tours asking to blend the two beers with somebody coming up with the name Sailing Santa. We have now added spices to the beer, changing the mix slightly from year to year, to add to the holiday experience of enjoying a pint. We made the 2013 version with more cinnamon than last year’s batch, and we really like the way it turned out.

We package Sailing Santa in our 22 oz bomber bottles, so look for it at your favorite store with the other large format bottles.

Make a Reservation for Lunch on November 27 and 29

It’s Thanksgiving week. You’re off of work. You have houseguests. Your fridge is full of ingredients for your Thanksgiving feast (and Saint Arnold beers). But you are looking for someplace to eat lunch on the non-Thanksgiving days. Come on out to the brewery! For $19 all in, enjoy a great lunch and delicious beers.

On the Wednesday and Friday of Thanksgiving week, you can prepay for lunch. This both ensures that we have delicious food for you (as there is a good likelihood that we will sell out those days) and that you can show up anytime between 11:00 AM and 1:15 PM and enjoy lunch and beers (which also helps our kitchen as we don’t have a crush at 11:00).

Also, if you purchase eight tickets, we can reserve a table for you.

Now for the caveats. There aren’t any refunds on this. If you need to add a person, if we are sold out, we won’t be able to accommodate. Please arrive before 1:15 PM.

If we sell out, we will post it on our website.

We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. We will be open regular lunch and tour hours all other days. Here are the menus:
