The crisp October air is thick with the aroma of fresh, green hop cones! We are excited to announce that our annual Fresh Hop Ale is on its way. This year, we brewed Scratch #116 with 400lbs. of freshly picked wet Chinook hops direct from the Yakima Valley in the Pacific Northwest. These über-fresh hops were harvested, packaged, and express delivered to our brewery all in the same day. To ensure the absolute freshest hop aroma and flavor, we brewed the beer within 24-hours of taking delivery of the hops. Fresh hop ale, indeed! Scratch #116 – Fresh Hop Ale will be released on Friday, October 4 and available on draft and via growler fills in the Tasting Room as well as cases, six-packs, and single bottles in our General Store. It will also make an appearance at our next Full Moon Firkin event scheduled for Friday, October 18, when we will have six firkins on-hand for thirsty customers. Tapping occurs at 11am. Get to the brewery right when we open and you could have a chance to tap the firkin!
Master of Pumpkins
After the success of last year’s Scratch #79 – Pumpkin Ale, we simply couldn’t resist releasing a pumpkin beer this fall. With the recent acquisition of our cork & cage bottling line, we thought this would be the perfect time to package this delicious fall treat in the same 750mL bottles we traditionally have filled with our Splinter beers. Brewed with native Pennsylvania neck pumpkins harvested just a few miles from our brewery at Strites’ Orchard, Master of Pumpkins conjures the spirit of autumn by combining roasted pumpkins and traditional pie spices with a French saison yeast. This natural fermentation releases a palate of vanilla, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, ginger, and honey. Master of Pumpkins will be available by late October-early November in 750mL corked and caged bottles only at Tröegs Brewery. Taste it you will see, more is all you need!
With our new cork and cage bottle filler up and running, we’re excited to announce the release of our inaugural year-round bottle conditioned beer – LaGrave! Inspired by nature’s untamed beauty, LaGrave is a strong, alluring Triple Golden Ale brewed with Belgian yeast, allowing the palate to twist and turn in many different directions. LaGrave’s initial flavor is sweet and fruity, then follows through with a semi-dry, lingering bitter finish. LaGrave will be available in 4-packs of 375mL bottles in our General Store as well as select retailers throughout Pennsylvania only. Look for LaGrave to be on shelves by late October.
Our fall seasonal, Dead Reckoning Porter, is still available in 12-oz. bottles and 1/2-barrel kegs throughout our eight-state distribution footprint. This robust yet hopped-up porter offers a perfect complement to the chilly autumn nights that are quickly approaching. Dead Reckoning is also part of our Anthology #2 variety case, which also includes Tröegs Pale Ale, HopBack Amber, and DreamWeaver Wheat. Elf Season is just around the corner! Our new 300-bbl fermentation tanks are filled with the delicious elixir. Stacks upon stacks of pallets are waiting in our warehouse to be shipped to distributors. Bottling of 22oz. bombers has commenced. It is indeed the most wonderful time of the year at Tröegs Brewery! This month, we will begin shipment of Mad Elf, our mischievous holiday ale brewed with a lavish combination of chocolate malt, spicy Belgian yeast, sweet and sour cherries, and Pennsylvania honey. We will begin by unleashing 12oz. bottles of the Elf across our eight-state distribution footprint on October 15 and continue into November. By Thanksgiving, you can expect to see 1/6-kegs and 1/2-kegs beginning to infiltrate the market. But you’d better hurry and get yours right away, because when the Elf goes into hiding, he won’t appear again until next year!
New Snack Bar Menu
Our team of chefs has been busy putting the finishing touches on our new Seasonal Snack Bar Menu, which we will premiere on Thursday, October 10. Our talented chefs have put together an amazing menu featuring an assortment of small, large, and shared plates as well as delicious sandwiches. Some of the highlights of this new menu include smoked pulled chicken mole on corn tortillas, a clam po’boy sandwich, oysters on the half shell, and roasted spinach and mushroom pie with curried pumpkin purée and goat cheese. Of course, some of our most popular items will remain or receive slight makeovers, including pork belly, braised beef brisket sandwich, meatloaf on brioche, and confit duck leg. We will also continue to feature daily rotating chef’s specials including popcorn and soup du jour as well as entrée and dessert selections all prepared with fresh, seasonal ingredients, many of which are sourced from local farms.
From dinners and tastings to tap takeovers and festivals, our brewery reps are constantly out and about bringing our beer to the masses! Check out these tasty Tröegs events during the month of October.
