It seems that the Big E is the place for local and regional craft beer this year and hopefully for a long time to come. They started this year with a New England Craft Beer Pub pouring brews from Maine to Vermont to Connecticut and Rhode Island and all the in between. I liked that they had one of my favorite local brewery Westfield River Brewing from my hometown with their Octoberfest. I had to do another favorite stop at the Vermont building where they had four breweries pouring from that state. Our last stop would be at the Opa Opa Saloon where we would have a big surprise at finding Courtney our favorite bartender from there but gone about a year and a half ago and moved to North Carolina and made a return trip just to help out for the duration of the fair.
IPA pours hazy golden with two finger head and lots of sticky lacing. Nose is citrus more grapefruit with a small pine note. Taste is somewhat mouth puckering with a bitter back bite but the malts smooth it out a little. Served in plastic glass Vermont building at Big E 9/13/13.
Oatmeal Stout pours black with short head and lots of lacing. Nose is all dark rich malt with some earthy aromas. Taste is same as smell with big dark malt flavor don’t know about oatmeal. Served in plastic glass New England Craft Beer Pub at Big E 9/13/13.
IPA. Pours light amber color with nice head and lots of sticky lacing. Nose of light malts and some citrus/pine notes in there. Taste of wheat malt that’s present at first, then hops kick in, with an even after bite. Nice hoppy bitter bite when cold, then gets smoother when it warms. Served in plastic glass Opa Opa Saloon at Big E 9/13/13.
