Hey Badassbeer!

Happy May! We’re taking a break from celebrating American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) to share a few upcoming odds and ends with you. For those not familiar with ACBW, Congress dedicates this week every year to recognize American craft brewers across the country for their contributions as small businesses. It’s hosted by the Brewers Association and celebrates the ever-advancing craft beer culture in the US. We’re hosting a variety of beer dinners, tap takeovers, and special tastings across the country to celebrate. We hope you can get out and raise a pint to all the great American craft brewers.

On the brewing front, we’ve ramped up our efforts to get Porch Rocker out the door and meet the demand we anticipate based on the enthusiastic response this beer received last year. We’ve also been brewing a variety of styles that could wind up in future variety packs and at festivals, but nothing that we’re ready to reveal…quite yet.

Enjoy this month’s edition of What’s on Tap as we get back to celebrating American Craft Beer Week!

Thank you for continuing to support small business owners in your community by purchasing a Boston Lager at participating accounts.

National "Pitch Room" Contest for Small Businesses

We look forward to launching our "Pitch Room" contest next month. Focused on giving small business owners the opportunity to learn the art of "perfecting their pitch," participants will get a chance to present their products to retailers and restaurants. Our first Pitch Room competition will take place at our San Francisco Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream Speed Coaching event and will be incorporated into 3 other Speed Coaching events nationwide. Small business owners will be critiqued by a panel of industry retail buyers and product decision makers. Those who make the best "pitch" will move on to compete at a national competition. They’ll have the chance to win a $10,000 business grant and a series of personalized coaching and mentoring sessions with our employees. Apply to perfect your pitch with our team today! An instant favorite with many Sam fans since we introduced it last year, Samuel Adams Porch Rocker is a bright and citrusy Bavarian Radler with a fresh-squeezed lemon taste and refreshing finish. Crisp and tangy with its combination of lager and tart lemonade, this popular German style is a unique summer quencher for those warmer days we’ve all been anticipating.

A traditional Bavarian Radler is beer mixed with German-style lemonade, or lemon soda. This refreshing concoction got its name from the German cyclists that first inspired its creation. In the 1920s a Bavarian innkeeper developed the drink when a large group of cyclists stopped by and he realized he didn’t have enough beer to go around. So, he mixed what little he had with lemon soda and called it Radlermass (or cyclist’s liter) and the refreshing style quickly took off. Our take on this style begins with a Helles, a crisp German-style lager with a golden straw color, light maltiness and subtle hop note. To turn this into a Radler we combined it with our own blend of lemons to create just the right combination of subtle tart sweetness, citrus, and bright refreshing flavor.

In our opinion, there is no better Samuel Adams experience than the one you get here at the Boston Brewery. Come learn about our history, the brewing process and, of course, taste some of our award-winning beers.
