After Black Friday

One holiday down and with getting caught up on new news I learned Amherst Brewing had introduced an imperial Russian stout called Black Friday. After putting in a call there they still had a few bottles left and their taps where still flowing so off for a trip I went. With only a few trips per year here you get different wait staff each time and this time it would be a very knowledgeable and energetic Molly that satisfied all my needs and then some. I would find that they had 4 variations of it pouring and had 4oz samples of all them. I then went of board for a full glass of another local brewery BBC and their Holidale ale “a form of barley wine”. I like Amherst Brewing and there is not too many breweries that also pour guest brews along with their own. My tasting notes are the order that I had them and the two bottles I left with were of batch #2 that they only bottled 150!

Amherst Brewing

Black Friday batch 1 pours black with good head and lacing that slides down glass. Nose is light with a roasted coffee note. Taste is Delicious with roasted coffee and a chocolate note along with big alcohol bite. Sample 9.5% on 11/27/12.

Black Friday batch 2 pours black with good head and lacing that slides down glass. Nose is light with a roasted coffee note. Taste is Delicious also with roasted coffee and raisin note with warm alcohol mouth. Sample 9.5% on 11/27/12.

Black Friday Barrel Aged pours black with good head and loads of sticky lacing. Nose of oak and bourbon from the barrel ageing along with an alcohol note. Taste is bigger and deeper than first two with oak ageing and nice warming alcohol mouth. Sample 9.5% on 11/27/12.

Black Friday Black Cherry Barrel Aged on cask pours black with great head that stays afloat and sliding lacing. Nose is a little sweet with a hint of the cheery. Taste is smooth with many flavors but on the light side with an after alcohol bitter mouth. Sample 9.5% on 11/27/12.

Berkshire Brewing Company

Holidale 2012 pours amber with good head and loads of sticky lacing all the easy down glass. Nose of semisweet malts and a fruit that I can’t figure out yet. Taste is border line; it’s wet and flavorful with stuff I can’t figure out yet but great! Top performer at 9.5% 12 oz pour in tulip glass at ABC on 11/27/12.
